What is the problem we are solving? Loneliness. It’s clear that the leaders of nonprofits and social enterprises are lonely. Our families and friends don’t understand the weight that we feel. We use words like purpose, calling, and mission. We feel responsible. It’s heavy. The Plywood community understands.

The need has been identified. Earlier this year, the Surgeon General made a declaration that the greatest concern for our culture is not smoking, alcohol, obesity, drug abuse, or other forms of addiction, but the greatest epidemic of our day is loneliness.

For 15 years, Plywood People has been building a community of social impact leaders.

Community is at the core. We train through community. We have a co-working space that has community at the center. We host events that bring people together in community. We create community through our board and investors. We promote our community through our Friday Five emails. Community is the way we work.

The data proves the story. This year we did quantitative and qualitative research with a professor from University of Georgia, and this was her conclusion: “Plywood is igniting connection and creating community to defy entrepreneurial loneliness and isolation.”
