Sometimes it takes working at a sexual assault crisis center to know there is hope in the world.

Each year nearly 300 people, from toddlers to seniors, come to our offices burdened by the horrific actions of other people. Most often these other people are immediate family members or people who were thought of as trustworthy (teachers, coaches, pastors).

We accompany our clients on discovering and rediscovering their inherent strength and worth. We name the rights that are theirs in the criminal legal system, employment, and schooling. We always show up, be it in a hospital or at a Lego table.

And time after time, clients rise like the sun in our logo because they will not let themselves be forever shadowed by perpetrators.

If that doesn’t give us a little hope-boost, there are our school and community partners. Nearly every school district in our nine-county region regularly invites us into their classrooms for age-appropriate education about safe touch, boundaries, and trusted adults. Generations of children and youth are learning that they don’t deserve to be groomed and used—and that if they are they can speak up, be believed, and get help.
