Soup Joumou (often called Liberation Soup) is a powerful anti-colonial symbol of resistance, freedom, and collective dignity, born out of the Haitian Revolution. On the first day of the year, we gather in that spirit to nourish our people and honor Haitian freedom as an essential part of the global Black liberation story.

Each year on January 1st, we continue our tradition of serving 200+ hot bowls of Soup Joumou (Haitian Liberation Soup) to-go in Harlem/Uptown Manhattan. This gathering is an act of mutual care - not charity - and a way to begin the year rooted in community, solidarity, and collective liberation. Alongside hot, nourishing meals prepared with love and respect, we will also distribute personal care packages and winter coats while supplies last: always centering dignity and human care.
