Funds from this campaign are being directed towards supporting Laila El Haddad's family in Gaza, helping provide essential resources like food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter, and eventually, rebuilding. This aid is aimed at offering relief and sustaining the well-being of those affected by the ongoing Israeli Genocide there. This includes her uncles, her cousins, and their respective families, a total of 30 people.
Background: My name is Laila Elhaddad. I'm an author and activist and a mother of four, among other things, but first and foremost I am a proud Palestinian from Gaza.
I have spent my life narrating the Palestinain experience, sharing our stories, and chronicling Gaza's rich culinary heritage. Over the past year, I have seen everything I knew and loved systemically destroyed, with Gaza being turned into a wasteland.
My extended family all resides in Gaza. Those who haven't already been killed are struggling to survive, scattered in different locations between the north of Gaza and the south, constantly seeking safety where none exists. They shelter with dozens of others in a combination of places: tents, classrooms, stores with bombed out walls. They consume whatever they can find-and for those in the north, that is just canned food for months on end. Obtaining clean water is a daily struggle. Cooking requires purchasing firewood since cooking fuel hasn't been allowed in. All while they try to find a way to teach their children since the schools have all been destroyed.
They rely solely on my help-since they lost all their sources of income, and life has come to a standstill.
Note: Gaza's only crossing to the outside world has been destroyed, so this is NOT an evacuation plea, but rather a fundraiser to help my family continue to live with dignity INSIDE of Gaza. Thank you for your support!
