Honoring Jaylen Burns: A Collective Mission to Empower Future Leaders

On October 15, 2023, we lost a bright light—Jaylen Burns a young man from the suburbs of Chicago, who was full of promise, kindness, and determination. Jaylen was a senior at Jackson State University, a dedicated scholar, community builder, and brother in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Tragically taken by gun violence at just 21, his story reminds us of how precious life is—and how much potential is lost too soon.

In honor of Jaylen’s 24th birthday on November 14, we have launched Jaylen’s Legacy Foundation. Our goal is to raise $24,000 to provide 7 scholarships for students from Chicagoland attending HBCUs. The scholarships are intended for applicants who are in their third or fourth year of college, enrolled full-time. Helping them become first-generation college graduates and future leaders, just like Jaylen aspired to be — just like Jaylen DID!!!!! We want to support students who share Jaylen’s dedication to education and community service, helping them achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Jaylen was posthumously awarded his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology in May 2024— a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence. He earned a place on the Dean's List for three consecutive years and was passionately committed to his education and community. His big dreams and inspiring spirit continue to motivate us all to make a difference.

Join us in turning grief into hope. Your support helps keep Jaylen’s legacy alive and empowers the next generation.
