Bonaventure Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization. We rely on memberships, visitor donations, and the occasional grant to carry out our mission.

Your membership helps us attain our three goals:

  1. Educating the public on the rich historic significance of Bonaventure.
  2. Preserving the man-made and natural beauty of the cemetery.
  3. Enhancing the visitor experience.

Your BHS Membership includes four outstanding newsletters per year, an invitation to our annual members dinner, and discounts on events... such as our Living History Lectures and special tours!

Some of our specific accomplishments:

  • Restoration of the family plot of Peter Wiltberger, one of the creators of the original Evergreen Cemetery.
  • Restoration of the wall surrounding the plot of Dr. Richard Arnold, a 19th Century Mayor of Savannah.
  • Installation of the John Walz memorial marker sculpted from Georgia marble.
  • Installed the Colonial Garden Pathway which curves through Colonial Garden from Mullryne Way to Walz Way.
  • Restoration of the Lake plot table monuments.
  • Restoration of the Carl Brandt marker.
  • Preservation of the tree canopy, an integral part of Bonaventure, by planting over 30 trees in the last two years.
  • Repair and restoration of entrance gates.

Your support makes our work possible!
