Sean Hourihan ~ Team Mechanic's Story
I am proud to serve as the Team Mechanic for our USDCA. As a Deaf individual myself, I bring not only technical expertise but also a deep understanding of the culture, communication needs, and shared passion that binds our team together.
My journey into cycling mechanics began with a love for bikes in repair and races, and a desire to support Deaf athletes in pursuing their goals without barriers. Over the years, I’ve trained and worked on a wide range of bikes, gaining hands-on experience with everything from routine maintenance to advanced repairs and performance tuning. I’ve had the privilege of working with riders at various levels, especially in the US National Cyclocross Championship for one of the Pro riders back in 2022, and I also provided Neutral Service for the World Deaf Cycling Championship 2011 in Canada, ensuring their equipment is race-ready and safe.
Being Deaf in this role gives me a unique advantage—I understand firsthand how important visual communication and trust are in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. I strive to create a supportive and efficient workspace where our athletes feel confident that their gear is in expert hands. My goal is always to keep our riders focused on performance, knowing that every detail of their equipment has been taken care of with precision.
I’m honored to be part of USDCA, which not only celebrates cycling but also uplifts Deaf talent and representation in sports. Through this role, I hope to continue breaking down barriers and showing the world what we can achieve together.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Sean Hourihan
