New Year Donation Campaign
As we enter another impactful year, we wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support of Respond Crisis Translation in 2023. Your commitment to our mission has allowed us to make a significant impact in providing crucial language access services to those facing crises around the world.
Last year was marked by unprecedented challenges, and through it all, Respond Crisis Translation has been at the forefront, addressing language barriers that victimize the most vulnerable and marginalized across the globe. We invite you to reflect on the remarkable work made possible by supporters like you:
- Our work throughout 2023 has led to our widespread recognition as a key lifeline for asylum seekers and advocates, as described in the recent Bloomberg Businessweek feature, “The Nonprofit at the Border That Translates 170 Languages.”In 2023, our caseload increased three-fold due to political, economic, and climate disasters mounting across the globe.
- We created jobs for more than 470 multilingual members of directly impacted communities.
- Our teams of language practitioners translated 13,466 full asylum claims for 53,864 individual asylum seekers and families and orally interpreted over 55 million minutes at the border and on the frontlines of climate and political crises.
- Our interventions in language violence have led to reversals of denied asylum claims, corrections of mistranslations in legal documents and legacy news media coverage, and increased awareness of the dire importance of properly trained, trauma-informed, human translators. Please take a moment to visit our blog, where you can read in detail about the advocacy and public education victories Respond has had throughout 2023: https://respondcrisistranslation.org/en/media.
The need for our work only continues to grow. As we continue our efforts to contribute to the struggle for justice of all forms, in which language justice is at the center, please consider continuing to enable us to make a difference.
Your donation, no matter the size, will directly facilitate our ability to intervene in language violence and provide dignified wages and employment opportunities for language practitioners who are often on the frontlines of crises themselves.
