OBC Research Kickoff 2024

Our Shell Cycle is expanding! In addition to our shell recycling, vertical oyster garden (VOG) building workshops and installations, we have added scientific research into our operations. It is crucial that we study the effectiveness of our VOGs, so that we are able to better measure their impacts on the local environment. To do this, we will be looking at everything from the baby oysters to any other organisms living with them on the shells.

 

Here is where we need your help. We're requesting your help to JUMP-START our research operations. To get started, we need to cover these new operational costs and purchase materials for our field sampling. Join us in learning more about our VOGs so that we can better understand how to protect Florida!

 

• Specialized Research Equipment: Essential field sampling gear and lab equipment needed to study the growth and health of our VOGs.

• Data Analysis Software: Specialized software to analyze data collected from VOGs, enhancing our ability to assess environmental impact accurately and efficiently.

• Operational Costs: Cover new operational expenses related to expanding our research component, including travel to various sites.

• General Research Support: Provide funding for less specific needs such as purchasing minor equipment, safety gear for fieldwork, and other miscellaneous items that support our expanded research activities.
