Hi, I’m Brianna Green!

I’m 17 years old and am currently in 11th grade at Haslett High School. I love singing, acting, dancing, playing tennis and the piano, traveling, meeting new people, and spending time with my younger sister, Lily. I am in two school choirs, band, and color guard, and I have been in many musicals and plays.

I attend University Lutheran Church in East Lansing, Michigan, and I love participating in our youth group and children’s ministry programs. Occasionally, I get to perform in church with my flute or in two of our church choirs. I also really enjoy spending time with children. Last summer, I got to be a counselor-in-training at Living Water Ministries Church Camp and absolutely loved it! I met so many amazing people and had tons of fun. Those two weeks were eye opening and truly life changing, further solidifying how important my faith and being in community with others are to me.

Music, theater, and acting have always been a big part of my life, and my plan after high school is to attend a college program for Musical Theatre. I’ve always loved singing in church, attending plays and musicals, performing in little skits, playing flute and piano, singing in choirs, and learning about characters/people through art. Music has always been an outlet for me to express myself and let all my emotions out. When I was struggling with anorexia, I hit a huge mental block, drifted away from music, and got into a dark place of self-hatred and harm. Finding my way back to music was an essential part of my recovery journey. Music allowed me to express myself in ways that words could not. I began to deeply connect with songs that made me feel seen. One song that really resonated with me was “Beautiful Things”. Eventually I got to perform it at church and share my story with our congregation. It was at this moment that I realized that performing (through music) and sharing stories was truly my passion. I would like to go into musical theater, because I want to show characters’ stories (like they’re my own) on a deeper level, through singing and acting. I love how musicals portray flawed characters that we can often relate to. I also love how musicals (and other forms of art) bring many current issues to the forefront for people to see and experience in potentially new ways and from different perspectives. My ultimate hope is that someday I may be able to be a part of a production that helps someone feel seen, or has the audience leaving with a better understanding of themselves and/or others.

I am excited to attend Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) in Valparaiso, Indiana for four weeks this summer. During this time, I hope to build on the skills I will need going into college auditions and beyond. I also hope that through this experience, I will learn how to better balance my faith with my goals. Oftentimes I find I put a lot of worth in my performance and “success” in auditions or performances. I would like to work towards centering more of my worth and trust in God instead of results of auditions, especially as I continue to pursue my passion for performing, singing, and acting.

Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus.
