Where's it at?

Kettle Pond State Park in Groton Forest. https://vtstateparks.com/kettlepond.html The campsite we have booked is a group space with five lean-tos, one of which has an accessible ramp. Each lean-to has its own fire pit, and there's a central fire pit for the group to gather around. The campsite is directly next to the lake and there are canoes available for rent. There is also a composting toilet near to the camp that is relatively accessible (though for those who are mobility impaired, it is a slightly uphill walk over a gravel road).

What Will We Do, Anyway?

Camp, gather 'round a bonfire, swim, play games, laugh, tell jokes, tell stories, find cool rocks, stop and ogle things in the forest, make s'mores, decompress, maybe rent a canoe, make art, smash words, and be in the most excellent company of delightful queer folks.

Who is Welcome?

Queer folks and their strongly allied buddies over 18 years of age. Folks with accessibility needs and questions, reach out at info@rainbowbridgevt.org and we can discuss the details of the space and how we can best meet your needs.

What's it Cost?

This event is a sliding scale fee event set at $0-$50. As with all RBCC events, cost is not a barrier. We are asking that folks RSVP so we can accurately anticipate how much food, firewood, water, and safety supplies we'll need to bring.

What Should I Bring?

Personal camping gear. We'll have a few spare tents.
Food. We will have some basics (think hot dogs and s'mores) but if you have dietary needs or just want more variety, bring some along for yourself or to share.
Lighting. A flashlight, camping lantern, or headband lamp are incredibly useful to navigate to the restrooms at night.
Sanitizer. We'll bring some, but it's a good idea to have your own supply.
Hydration. Water is good for you. We'll have some, but we also recommend that you bring your own supply plus something portable to drink out of in case you wander into the woods.
Safety supplies. Bug spray, sun screen. We'll have a basic first aid kit.
Seating. There are picnic benches, but a folding chair is a good friend on a camping trip. Hammocks are even better.
Appropriate clothing. Dress in layers, the weather can be unpredictable. Bring swimwear and a towel if you want to join us in the lake. Sturdy boots if you want to trek through the forest with us. Long pants are also a good idea as ticks populate the forests of Vermont.
Cooking Equipment. If you plan on cooking over your own fire, bring cooking equipment like fire-resilient pans, utensils, and a washbasin for cleaning up. We will have some food and cooking supplies at the main firepit.
Firewood & Equipment. If you want to have a fire at your lean-to, bring firewood, an axe, tinder, and fire-management tools. We will supply the fire at the main firepit.
Shade. We will have a few pop-up tents at the main firepit, but if you'd like to spent time away from the primary group, it's a good idea to have a tarp, pop-up, sun-hat, or some other method of offering shade.
Quarters for the showers. If you want to wash up with something more advanced than a wet wipe, bring quarters and shower shoes for the showers at New Discovery campground. Absolutely no soap can be used in the lake.
Other useful items: Wet wipes, entertainment like art supplies, journals, or simple games, plastic bags to bring home wet and/or muddy items in.
