Hi, thank you for landing on my page! My daughters and I have been doing trash and recycled fashion since 2014. I have used feed bags, plastic bags, upholstery scraps and tag sale freebies to make dresses, rain coats, skirts, bags, jewelry and accessories.
For this particular design, I created a bustier and a skirt out of denim scraps that I had used to upholster a chair. I also used the chair as a demonstration for the upholstery class during Creative Day at Whiting Mills. For me, Creative Day was so exciting! To be able to share my craft with people who were interested in the work that I do every day.
With support of Northwest CT Arts Council, the Artists of Whiting Mills, received a grant in 2022 from the NEA (National Endowment of the Arts) to hold a day for the public to come into our arts mill community and get creative themselves!
The first creative day at Whiting Mills was held on April 1, 2023 with over 200 people attending free classes and 17 resident teaching artists and makers. We anticipate that grant funds may not always be available each year from the national our local arts funding sources for this event. So, for us to repeat this event in 2024, we are fundraising for the American Mural Project along with Northwest CT Arts Council as our nonprofit sponsor, so we can provide the funds needed to purchase art supplies and continue to offer this wonderful event to our community for free.
I appreciate your donation as a vote for our design. We are so excited for the Recycled Runway show on October 21 at the American Mural Project, and hope to see you there!
Tessa Cannavo will be our amazing and awesome model for this creation!
