I emailed Mark Merriam, the District Governor for District 5000 in Maui, a few days ago and received a response from him this morning. Coincidentally, when I was visiting Champaign-Urbana Sunrise Rotary this morning, member, Larry Johnson, who has contacts in Maui, shared the same information with me.

Our hearts go out to the people of Maui for the devastation they are experiencing from the wildfires. Larry shared that the homes of two Rotary club presidents have been destroyed. DG Mark Merriam shared that although all nine Rotary clubs have been impacted, Rotarians are working in emergency shelters, moving supplies, finding housing for the displaced, and more, showing that Rotarians are TRULY People of Action!

Early in a disaster, often the most effective way to help is a contribution of cash to a trustworthy and reliable organization. The Rotary District 5000 Foundation has established a Maui Relief Fund. The Rotary District 5000 Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, and Foundation President Dave Hamil and Treasurer Sharon Amano will handle all donations.
