Support the unique "flavors of learning" that Rensizzle offers to all TRCS 1 students!

Now in its second decade, “RENSIZZLE” is the unique-to-Renaissance enrichment program students participate in every year. For one week in October and May, we suspend traditional classes in favor of problem-based learning. More than 400 students in Grades 6-12 (October) and 200 students in Grades K-5 (May) embark on learning adventures across the five boroughs and beyond.

This year's experiences included rock scrambling at Mohonk Mountain, a behind-the-scenes tour of Ellis Island's abandoned hospital, and Broadway musical Here Lies Love. Sixty-seven destinations in and around NYC were explored. New museums visited this year included the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, the Museum of Arts and Design, the Natural History Museum, the Intrepid Museum, MoMA, The Met, the Tenement Museum, the Museum of Illusions, Spyscape, the Museum of Broadway, and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. New partnerships this year included the Center for Architecture. Students were tasked with designing a green roof for our own school.

STEM outings included hands-on workshops at the Billion Oyster Project and the Science Barge. Adventures ranged from the Sterling Hill Mine in NJ, tours of Fort Tryon and Fort Totten parks, the ropes course adventures at Alley Pond, and Gotham Archery. Culinary arts continued its streak as one of the most popular groups and included a campus visit to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.

Field-based education requires an investment in the whole child, and that means stimulating young minds through all five senses: sight, sound, touch, smell, and yes, of course -- taste! Thanks to generous support from friends like you, we are able to provide a diverse menu of activities during this one-of-a-kind week of transformative teaching and learning.

We need your help, however, to continue providing our students exposure to the many "flavors" of NYC that they may not otherwise get to experience through traditional classroom instruction or everyday life.

Renaissance has always supported hands-on learning, and Rensizzle exemplies our core mission as a school to "develop the leaders for the renaissance of New York." Learning through the City we call home is undeniably a gateway to new horizons.
