Over 44,000 New Orleanians will be impacted by the loss of weekly federal unemployment benefits. Critically, the federal moratorium on evictions also expires, with an unprecedented landslide of evictions likely in August. This could not come at a worse time, as the City currently battles rising rates of COVID19. Moreover, the City is also entering into peak hurricane season and has storms, flooding, and extreme heat with which to contend. Keeping people safe and healthy at home is paramount at this time.
