School Meals: Loosingeran Primary School

Global RISE (Responsibility In Service and Education) was founded by Joshua Laplante with the mission to support community development in rural and indigenous communities in Tanzania. We collaborate to co-design plans of action with each community to support their vision for quality education and community development.

Our organization works to break down barriers to education by providing support with strategic planning, uniforms and supplies for homeless children and children living in harsh conditions, delivering instruction and instructional resources in classrooms, and repairs on facilities as needed. We also work with communities on reforestation efforts within school grounds and address water insecurity by supplying and installing water tanks.

While on our visit to the Loosingeran Primary School in the Arusha region of Tanzania, in addition to helping with repairs, planting trees, delivering new desks and distributing uniforms, we met with school and community members to discuss further needs of the school community and ways that Global RISE can help. The most urgent need is to feed the students, as the overwhelming majority do not eat from 7am to 3pm each day. It is difficult to learn when you are hungry. Our current project is to provide over 900 students at the Loosingeran Primary School with nutritious meals each day throughout the school year.
