In 1949, Paul Robeson came to Peekskill to sing for justice, civil rights, and freedom of expression. He and thousands of concertgoers were met with violence while authorities stood by. The Peekskill Riots exposed deep tensions around race, anti-Semitism, political repression, and the right to speak, sing, and gather freely. Those questions still matter today.
