Story

Boozhoo Aaniin! Abigail ndizinikaaz. Makwa Ndoodem. Waganakising Odawa nadadibendaagwaz.

Hello! My name is Abigail. I am Bear clan from the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians.

My goal is to make at least 200 ribbon skirts over the course of the next year that can be gifted to Indigenous youth and reconnecting Natives. The first time that I wore a ribbon skirt, I looked in the mirror and thought to myself, "wow. I look Native". It took me many years to be so proud of my mixed identity. I realize the simplicity and beauty in a single skirt and that many may not have the opportunity to be gifted one or to make one with their Aunties and Grandmothers. I want to make them and gift them because we all deserve to feel seen and proud of our identities.

I have estimated that each skirt will cost around $30-$40 in materials and shipping which is why I'm fundraising at least $7,000 to help cover the cost of materials for my initial goal of 200 Ribbon Skirts.
