This pretty sweetie is Brownie, she is Zazu's sister. She also lives in a rural community in Northwest Alaska. Like Zazu, Brownie lives outside 24/7 and her current house is not the greatest, there is no insulation, it has a hole in the side, it sits directly on the cold ground, and the entire front wall is open. We would love to get her set up with an elevated insulated house and straw before winter comes.

Brownie is 2 years old, she loves all kids and her people. The family has 3 outside dogs, they do spend time with their dogs, but the family's house is too small to have them inside. We will offer supplies for inside to see if there is anyway to help them get some time inside with their people, not only during the cold but to get some love and attention when it is too cold for the kids to spend time with them outside. Even if they set up one space to rotate them inside to see the family, that is better than outside alone all winter.

While we at Straw For Dogs are not of the mindset that dogs should live outside in the cold away from their families, the reality is that many do.

We provide insulated dog houses and straw to dogs living outside in the harsh Alaskan climate. Even with a dog house and straw these living conditions are far from ideal. However, sending these resources are the most immediate action we can take to provide a little comfort to dogs who are suffering in the elements.

We continue to encourage people to bring their dogs inside (at least periodically for love and socialization), walk them, and play with them. We offer supplies to help with this as well.
