Moulin Rouge! The Musical stands for TB Elimination!
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a story of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love, but it also tells a tale of a woman dying of tuberculosis, a disease that today causes 1.5 million deaths globally each year, and infects 1/4 of the world's population.
The drama of the musical is heightened by Satine's battle with "consumption," yet many of our audiences have never learned that this "consumption" is tuberculosis, and that it still affects so many people today.
Our company believes in the power of art to create change, and with the generosity and support of this incredible community we hope to bring attention and awareness to an often neglected disease. Together, we can Stop TB.
After an exciting spring campaign, which included a benefit concert, auction, and even recognition by the Centers for Disease Control, we are thrilled to be continuing our efforts with a new fundraiser for tuberculosis awareness and elimination. Our company believes in the power of art to create change, and with the generosity and support of this incredible community we hope to bring attention and awareness to an often neglected disease. Together, we can Stop TB.

The Backstory
My name is Tamrin Goldberg. I am a swing in the North American Tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. My father, Dr. Stefan Goldberg, is a retired senior medical officer at the CDC's tuberculosis division and adjunct professor of epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, who has dedicated the majority of his medical career to TB elimination. We are grateful for this opportunity to raise awareness and support two incredible organizations, We Are TB and the Treatment Action Group, whose work centers TB survivors and promotes TB advocacy and research. Thank you for your support.
Where Your Support Goes
Donations will be shared between the action and advocacy organizations, Treatment Action Group and We Are TB.
In addition to the crucial impact of your generous donations, it's essential to highlight the integral role played by the Community Advisory Board (CAB) in our mission to combat tuberculosis. A CAB consists of dedicated individuals from affected communities, primarily residing in high TB burden regions, who work tirelessly to bridge the gap between scientific research and the communities most affected by TB. These community members understand the local context, challenges, and needs better than anyone else, making their involvement indispensable.
The importance of CABs and community advocates cannot be overstated. They serve as the voice of their communities, advocating for improved access to TB treatment and prevention, ensuring that research efforts align with the real-world needs of those affected. However, this work comes with its own set of challenges. CAB members often face resource constraints and limited access to information, which hinders their ability to effectively advocate for their communities.
This is where your support becomes truly transformative. Your donations directly contribute to empowering CAB members and TB advocates by providing them with essential resources. A $35 donation, for instance, covers an internet stipend for one month, enabling CAB members to stay connected, informed, and engaged in the fight against TB. A $148 donation goes even further, offering compensation stipends to advocates, recognizing their invaluable dedication and time spent on community engagement in research and improving access to TB prevention, treatment, and diagnostic technologies.
Furthermore, your contribution of $200 can fund an honorarium for a guest speaker, often a TB survivor, who shares their firsthand experiences, shedding light on the challenges and issues faced by those affected by TB. This not only raises awareness but also inspires empathy and understanding, further fueling our collective commitment to eradicating this devastating disease.
In essence, your support extends beyond mere financial assistance; it empowers the champions of change within affected communities, equipping them to translate science and research into practical, inclusive solutions. By compensating CAB members and enabling their advocacy work, your donations are instrumental in improving access to TB treatment and prevention, bringing us one step closer to a world free from the burden of tuberculosis. Together, we can make a lasting impact and save countless lives. Thank you for being a part of this vital mission.
