The Supported Volunteer Service Program at LivingProof is a mental health focused initiative that engages peers and volunteers in meaningful work that serves the organization, the individual, and the community, helping them develop confidence, coping skills, and connections. This program benefits those who are seeking and/or navigating recovery from mental health conditions, as well as the dually diagnosed (Substance Use Disorder and a mental health diagnosis). Participants engage in a regular mindfulness/wellness practice and daily affirmation group discussion. In 2025, the program will welcome a trauma-informed therapist to facilitate monthly mental health workshops.
We truly believe this program to be a piece of prevention work as well, given that over half of those who are diagnosed with a mental health condition will have a Substance Used Disorder at some time in their lives, and the reverse is also true.
Since launching in August 2024, the program has seen participation from more than 25 peers, with an attendance record of 78 in the month of October.
We want to keep doing all of these AMAZING things! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Thank you for supporting Mental Health on Giving Tuesday 2024! We truly believe that more long-term recoveries are possible when both Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health are treated, supported, and advocated for!
