As the year winds down, we thank everyone who has reached out in honor of SABEW’s 60th Anniversary. It was a year of celebration and also a reminder of how grateful we are to all who have served or been part of the organization over the years.

In 2024, SABEW continued its mission as the leading business journalism organization to promote excellence through training opportunities, including conferences, workshops, fellowships and online programs. Skill Up once again brought together journalists and students at The Wall Street Journal’s New York headquarters to hear about how to cover a new beat, digging into CEO pay and proxy statements and building your brand and getting booked. SABEW hosted the Goldschmidt data fellows for a week in Washington, D.C. and later in the year at the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank. Several training webinars were held, including a recent one on how to navigate the modern social media space. The spring conference was held in Chicago at the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University. In addition, our colleagues in Canada have been busy with their Best in Business Awards celebration and another training event in November.

In honor of the anniversary we held a 60th Anniversary Symposium with some of the top editors in journalism at Dotdash Meredith in New York. Following the symposium, we celebrated past presidents and board members who have helped shape the organization over the years.

Over this last year 2,400 journalists participated in SABEW programs and awards competitions, 550 journalists increased their skills and knowledge through SABEW’s virtual training sessions, more than 500 people attended one of our seven in-person events, 197 SABEW members were honored for Excellence in Business Journalism and over 60 fellowship opportunities were provided including the Xana Fellowship and Sho Fund which help women and journalists of color advance their careers.

Also, in following our mission, seven First Amendment statements were made including multiple statements calling for the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich who was released on August 1, 2024.

SABEW is looking ahead to 2025 and needs your support to continue the work of pursuing the highest standards of economic journalism and encouraging deep, thoughtful reporting of economic events which remains vital for reporters, producers, editors, and others involved with this very important task.
