Launched in 2019, safedogpa.com provides information about what to do after an attack, where to get help, and strength to victims in knowing that they are not alone. We field emails and calls from people after attacks. Our responses have varied from simply listening and offering encouragement to connecting those suffering with others that have experienced the same issues. Sometimes support means getting more involved like attending hearings.

When a severe dog attack happens, the physical injuries, tragedy, and trauma are devastating. There can be minimizing of what happened, victim blaming, or a dismissive attitude which is just as painful as the attack itself. The whole family is affected by it. It’s common for the victim and the family to suffer from post-traumatic stress. For these reasons, our advocacy has extended into educating local district attorneys, first responders, and legislators.

Considering that every 7 seconds* someone in the US is bitten by a dog, you would think that there would be a wealth of resources for families in the aftermath. Try Googling what to do when you are bitten by a dog and there’s page after page of attorney ads demonstrating the void and unmet need for victims. Safedogpa.com offers a place to start healing.

According to the NCBI (The National Center for Biotechnology Information), dog bites in children are surging during and after Coronavirus lockdowns. Our mission includes Safety and Prevention. To that end, we designed and published a kids dog safety program and coloring book along with teacher training materials. Please share it, view here.
