A Morning to Remember!

On July 27, 2025, hundreds of new and familiar faces gathered to support and celebrate The SAM School. Hosted graciously at the home of Lillian and Ken Cayre, the day was filled with powerful messages, heartfelt stories, and a shared commitment to securing a bright future for Sephardic education in Manhattan.

Harry Adjmi welcomed the crowd and emphasized the importance of a Sephardic school in New York City. Ken Cayre spoke passionately about the role yeshivot play in preventing assimilation and building strong Jewish identity.

Rabbi Shlomo Farhi captured the moment perfectly, comparing SAM to a promising start-up: still somewhat under the radar, but right at the tipping point — the perfect time to invest. In a surprise appearance, Hymie Chera shared the deeply personal roots of his family’s philanthropy in Jewish education.

In a moving tribute, Harry Adjmi announced that SAM will now officially be known as the Stanley I. Chera SAM School, in memory of Hymie’s father, who himself was a model of philanthropy.

We also heard from Rabbi Ariel Mizrahi and Jack Dayan, who spoke from the heart about what makes SAM so inspiring — especially during this solemn period of the Nine Days, a time when unity and support mean even more.

Attendees were given the opportunity to make a 3-year pledge of $18k, $26k, or $36k per year, securing recognition on the Trina & Joe Cayre Supporters Wall, soon to be displayed in our 74th Street building.
