Project Luna
Because no mother should suffer in silence—and no family should carry the weight alone.
There is a moment after birth that few people talk about.
The meals stop coming. The visitors go home. The congratulations fade.
And for many mothers, what settles in is not peace—but a quiet, overwhelming heaviness.
In the Shoals and across Alabama, families are navigating postpartum depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief without access to the care they need. Some cannot afford counseling. Some cannot find providers. Some do not know what they are feeling, only that they do not feel like themselves anymore.
They love their babies deeply—and yet they feel lost.
Project Luna exists for them.
Created through a partnership between Safer Birth in Bama and Women and Children’s Counseling, Project Luna provides direct, evidence-based mental health support to mothers and families during pregnancy and the postpartum period—when support matters most and access is often hardest to find.
Through Project Luna, families in our community receive:
Professional counseling with licensed perinatal mental health providers
Financial assistance for therapy sessions when cost would otherwise prevent care
Early intervention support that helps prevent crisis, hospitalization, and long-term suffering
A safe place to process birth trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, and identity changes
Quiet, dignified care—without stigma, without judgment
This is not theoretical work. This is direct care for real families in the Shoals.
Every session funded through Project Luna is a life steadied.
Every family supported is a future strengthened.
Every mother who receives care is able to more fully show up—for herself, for her baby, and for her family.
When a mother heals, the entire family heals.
When families heal, communities become stronger.
But Project Luna exists entirely because people choose to care.
There is no large institutional funding behind this work. It is sustained by individuals—neighbors, parents, grandparents, and community members—who believe that mental health care after birth is not a luxury. It is essential.
Your donation to Project Luna directly funds counseling and mental health support for families in our own community.
$25 helps offset the cost of a therapy session
$50 helps provide early intervention support
$100 helps fund meaningful, ongoing care
Monthly donations allow families to receive consistent, uninterrupted support
This is how we ensure that no mother falls through the cracks simply because help was out of reach.
Project Luna was named for the quiet light that guides people through darkness. Not loud. Not forceful. Just steady, present, and unwavering.
With your help, that light continues.
Your donation today ensures that when a mother reaches out, someone is there to answer.
Because healing mothers is how we build stronger families.
And stronger families are how we build a healthier future for the Shoals.
