Lets help Charu Suri Win her Grammy
Indo American pianist Charu Suri is one of the few daring and innovative jazz voices to emerge from India, and it is our pleasure to act as a fiscal sponsor for Charu's incredible recognition in this year's Grammy® Awards where she is recognized as a nominee for her own album, SHAYAN in the Contemporary Instrumental Category (Jazz), and also as a producer for the Global Music Album by Siddhant Bhatia called Sounds of Kumbha. We at Kulture Kool have worked closely with Charu for our Hooray for Bollywood project with New Jersey Symphony and wholeheartedly support her ground breaking work.
Charu has carved a unique niche all her own: marrying ancient Indian ragas and jazz. She composed SHAYAN (the Sanskrit word for deep sleep or rest) to help people sleep better especially in a global landscape that has become increasingly stressful.
The 7 track album delves into the beauty of ancient evening Indian ragas from Jog, Kalyani, Desh and Bagesri---all beautifully composed in modern, fresh ways that still preserves the beauty of India's heritage.
Praised by critics and audiences alike for changing the way people think of jazz, Charu's work, SHAYAN, opens a new sonic world to listeners by blending ancient evening Indian ragas with jazz and classical rhythms.
Featuring world-renowned musicians including Jim Kimo West on guitar, Premik Russell Tubbs, Ravichandra Kulur, Ron Korb and Haruna Fukazawa on flute, Tess Remy-Schumacher on cello and several notable vocalists whose voices add texture to the rich instrumentation, SHAYAN taps into the beauty of six stunning Indian ragas to take you on an exquisitely healing journey.
Listen to SHAYAN here and help us support Charu in the final stage of her Grammy® journey.
