On November 6th, I will be running the 2022 TCS NYC marathon in honor of Charlie Landers and with a goal of raising funds for the Charlie Landers Foundation.
A 15-year-old baseball player from Franklin Lakes, NJ, Charlie lost his 2.5-year battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma in March of this year. He is a hero to me, my family, and all who knew and loved him.
Since losing Charlie, the Landers family founded the Charlie Landers Foundation to raise awareness of Ewing’s Sarcoma and funding for research to find a cure for this terrible disease. Unfortunately, given the relatively small number of Ewing’s patients, pharmaceutical companies are unlikely sponsors of research for this awful disease that affects many young people. Fifty percent of Ewing’s cases are in children and teens between the ages of 10 and 20.
