MHAF was developed by local mental health professionals who saw a need for mental health education, increased access to care, and more providers in rural Deep East Texas. Shawna & Kelly started MHAF to foster education, provide mental health therapy grants to individuals in the community who cannot afford services otherwise, and provide scholarships to graduate students seeking a degree in a mental health field who plan to return to Deep East Texas to practice. We hope to promote community involvement in our annual Mental Health Walk-a-Thon and Suicide Prevention Amazing Race each year.
