Every day in East Texas, dogs are dumped – on roadsides, in parking lots, rest areas, gas stations, in front of strangers’ homes. They are used for breeding then thrown away, they are hit by cars, starved, and die from the heat. Many never get a second chance. But we are here to change that!

We’re Southern Paws Northern Hearts Animal Rescue, a registered nonprofit corporation working to build a sanctuary for dogs and other animals in need, right here in our own community. We are ready to start saving lives right now, through rehab, vet care, transport, and eventually therapy dog training for veterans and others in need!

But we need your help to get moving!

Our Immediate Goals:

We Need your help to raise $15,000 to launch Phase One of our rescue operations:

A used transport van for emergency pickups and trips to vet care or foster homes
Outdoor kennels and safe enclosures for animals we temporarily house
Medical supplies and first aid kits
Startup costs to build trust, provide care, and begin saving lives immediately.

There is a massive stray animal problem here in East Texas. Spay and neuter education and services are needed, respect and compassion for our fellow animals are needed, and education for the public on the proper rescues, shelters, and local animal control organizations is needed - so folks can stop dumping animals all around this rural landscape, and feel they have a choice in making the right decision in doing what is best for the animals. Coming from the Northeast and transplanting to East Texas several years ago, we have been blessed to see the desire for rescue and adoption of pets up in the northeast - where there are shortages of pets for loving families - and now to observe the dramatic abundance of hurt, abused, abandoned, sick, over-bred animals in the south(mainly dogs). We now have the perfect opportunity to do good! We have an opportunity to rescue, nurture, and love these animals, and to prepare them for a loving forever home; while providing a peaceful sanctuary of space to adjust, heal, and socialize. At Southern Paws Northern Hearts Animal Rescue, our mission is to serve the greater good of the community by fostering a more humane, healthy, safe and sustainable environment for all living beings.

Long-term Vision:

We are working to purchase land and build a full-service animal sanctuary, where dogs and other animals can be rehabilitated, fostered, and placed into loving homes, or trained to become therapy dogs for Veterans and other humans in need. In our long-term vision, we will be organizing volunteer-powered habitat cleanups, because we believe helping animals and healing our Earth go hand-in-hand.

30 Dogs. 30 Days. 30 Second Chances.

We haven’t rescued 30 dogs... yet. But over the next 30days, we want to raise the money to rescue 30 dogs – and give them the safety, healing, and homes they deserve. Every post you see in our social media series is based on a real dog we’ve encountered in East Texas. Dogs left behind gas stations, hit by cars, starving on the side of the road, huddling in the bushes next to rest areas. We see them every day, but we haven’t had the land, the vehicle, or the funds to help.

That changes now!

A rescue dream begins now – and you can help us make it real. We are Southern Paws Northern Hearts and our mission is to save the forgotten animals of East Texas. Every single day, we see abandoned, injured, and starving dogs roaming the streets, or worse, have already died on the side of the road – every single day. But we can’t help them until we are fully equipped!

We’ve formed a nonprofit. We’ve created the plan. Now we need the resources to finally say YES to the animals waiting.
