She’s the First fundraises money to support girls's education in the Global South, fostering first-generation graduates and cultivating the next generation of global leaders. Harnessing technology and social media, She’s the First is committed to connecting student campus leaders, scholars, and activists around the world in innovative, mutually beneficial ways to foster mentorship, philanthropy, equality, and leadership.
She’s the First currently has partners in ten countries: India, Nepal, Guatemala, Peru, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, The Gambia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. The educational philosophy is that quality always trumps quantity, and there is an emphasis on each girl’s right to self-determination across these opportunities. Each girl-group is given tools and resources to ensure her success, during and after her school years. The students learn more than basic academics; they learn how to apply their new skills to the world around them, encouraged by support systems and mentors every step of the way. Ultimately, student leaders and scholars become change agents who will break cycles of generational poverty and transform our world.
This group will benefit Binghamton students by giving them a global perspective on girls’ education, a topic that is rapidly increasing in awareness, but still requires passionate advocates. Being a part of She’s the First is about more than fundraising-it is about working together to create a huge collective impact that reaches far beyond the walls of a school building. This group’s work is essential to achieving education equality for girls around the world.
