STITCCH is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3)-certified organization with the goal of allowing more low-income young people to have the opportunity to include music in their lives. High school students commute every Sunday to a shelter for immigrants (mostly from Haiti) and a community center in the area that serves a large variety of families, to teach children how to play string instruments or to sing in a chorus. Each of these programs is 16 weeks long and concludes with a concert. Once the 16-week program concludes, children have the choice of continuing for additional 16-week STITCCH programs. It is special because it is completely free for all participants. Instruments, lessons, and childcare are provided. The students in the strings class are given instruments to practice for the week, and they bring these instruments to class on Sundays. However, due to the high demand for instruments, STITCCH needs donations to continue providing instruments. Donations will be used to buy and fix instruments, obtain sheet music for chorus, and to provide supplies for the program so that we can continue adding a little bit of music every week into these children's lives.
