Shadow has focused on virtual educational offerings throughout 2020-2021, including masterclasses, private lessons, online gatherings, and spring and summer virtual experiences, with the goal being to provide an affordable, safe alternative to in-person drum corps as we weather the pandemic. For the final summer virtual experience, the corps envisioned producing something that wouldn't be possible on the field: a unique type of performance that capitalizes on the sonic possibilities of the modern recording studio while not needing to meet the criteria of a typical field show. The culmination of this idea is a video production entitled Superconductor, which includes actual music from legendary producer Amon Tobin, creating an atmospheric, sample-driven, epic landscape revolving around haunting melodies and earth-shaking beats. Shadow also recently became its own 501(c)3 non-profit organization, independent of its previous school district association, opening up its membership to anyone eligible for DCI. This huge step comes with a number of financial challenges, and any supporters of the arts interested in making a donation to help the corps see a full return to the DCI tour in 2022 are encouraged and appreciated.
