Meet Bhima – Our Resident Ambassador
Bhima is a Gyr ox, born in November 2010, weighing in at about 2,200 pounds. This rare breed originated in India, where the hump on their back stores fat tissue for nourishment in times of scarcity.
Bhima and his brother, Dharma, were originally raised on a Michigan farm to pull a plo
w. When the property was sold, the new owner did not want cows, and their future was uncertain. Thankfully, the former owner surrendered the brothers to SASHA Farm in 2013. Sadly, Dharma passed away shortly after arriving, but Bhima has flourished and become beloved by everyone at the sanctuary.
Bhima’s journey hasn’t been without challenges—he underwent a difficult surgery at MSU Veterinary Hospital to remove his horns due to infection. Yet, true to his name, which means “tremendous,” Bhima continues to thrive and inspire all who meet him.
Today, Bhima is the Resident Ambassador of SASHA Farm. Known for his gentle spirit and his friendships with animals of every kind, Bhima represents the heart of our mission. When you donate to Bhima, you are supporting the daily care, food, and veterinary needs of ALL the rescued animals at SASHA Farm.
Please note: Sponsorship does not include free or unlimited access to the farm outside of scheduled events.
