The Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center was created as a platform to share the innovative activities being carried out at Jack’s Solar Garden in Boulder County, Colorado. Jack’s Solar Garden, founded in 2020, is a 1.2 MW community solar garden with solar panels covering just over 4 acres of land.

This site is the premier site for agrivoltaics in the USA.

Solar panels are elevated on taller steel I-beams and wire management has been improved for safety of people, machinery and livestock. During construction, great care was taken to reduce land degradation to maintain soil health and viability.

The Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center hosts community members, farmers, ranchers, students, solar developers, policymakers, and enthusiasts for on-site tours in the most publicly accessible community solar garden in the country. We believe that solar arrays can be built with agricultural activities in mind, to keep land functional and improve livelihoods in agricultural communities, while safely integrating the community into them.

A timeless theory of change mantra states that seeing is believing. Our hope is that by engaging our community at Jack’s Solar Garden and beyond, we can inspire our broader community to build and operate more agrivoltaic installations around the nation.
