The Journey of Samantha Rose
Pictured above is a beautiful Beagle who came to Cascade Beagle Rescue from a rural Texas shelter in heartbreaking condition—covered in ticks and fleas, filthy, underfed, and pregnant. Our volunteers rushed her to safety all the way to Portland, Oregon, where her journey to healing began.

Her first stop was the vet. Samantha was cleaned, treated for parasites, microchipped, fed, and showered with love (and lots of treats). An ultrasound confirmed the news—puppies were on the way. But then came the blow no one wants to hear: Samantha tested positive for heartworm.

She delivered her puppies safely, and once they were weaned, Samantha began heartworm treatment—an expensive and difficult process costing over $1,000 per dog. The treatment requires multiple veterinary visits, months of strict bed rest, and three painful injections into the spine. The goal is a slow kill of the parasites to prevent deadly blockages in the heart and blood vessels. The risks are real. The side effects can be severe.

But Samantha is a fighter. 💪
She made it through treatment and went on to find her forever home with Joni and Keith Bott, who lovingly describe her as a “power kisser.” From abandoned and sick to safe, loved, and thriving—this is what your support makes possible.

💔💉 The problem:
The cost of heartworm testing and treatment has risen dramatically in recent years. We are committed to testing every rescued Beagle in our program and providing the first month of prevention—but it’s stretching our budget thin.

For the month of February, we’re throwing down the gauntlet!
We’re asking our supporters and fellow animal lovers to help us raise $1,000 to provide heartworm testing and prevention medication for 20 rescue Beagles.
