The Project

Read below to see the project that Elbereth is working on, that will allow her some in person research in Croatia. At the conclusion of the school year (not long after our return from this trip), our Scholar Pilgrims will present an eight minute presentation of their project, especially focusing on their in-person research. The project will then extend into a thesis, which will be finished over the summer. The Presentations will be recorded and supporters will receive a link where they can view the presentation.

When I was about eight years of age, I experienced a pivotal moment when I first held a violin in my hands, producing a series of squeaky sounds. In that instant, a passion ignited within me, fueling a desire to one day possess and master the art of playing the violin. Now, at seventeen, I am thrilled to declare that this aspiration has partially materialized, as I have spent the past four years delving into the practice and playing of the violin as a dedicated student.

The rich tapestry of musical history has always captivated my interest, and with the opportunity to journey to Europe on the horizon, I am embarking on an exploration of the violin's historical roots, particularly within the Zagreb region of Croatia, which has played a significant role in the development of the instrument. I am hoping to meet a local violin craftseman who repairs and builds new violins, and hoping to understand the violin more fully—beyond it's music, but of course connected to it.
