Help The Sesame Street Gang

On Monday, May 12th, our Volunteers arrived to our Rescue, Pet Angel Adoption & Rescue, for their evening shift to find a mother cat inside a tiny cage next to a blue plastic tote. Inside the tote were her 6 kittens. May 12th was the first day that the temperature in Frankenmuth, where our rescue is located, rose above 80 degrees, and these babies were left in the sun (no shade) inside a plastic tote with no air holes for an unknown amount of time, while their mother sat uncovered in the sunshine, separated from her kittens.

Mother and all 6 kittens- who are all males- are now inside the rescue, and are eating, drinking, acting normal and going potty. We have named the mom Sesame, and all 6 of her babies are named after Sesame Street characters: Elmo, Rocco, Bert, Ernie, Grover and Snuffy! The kittens range in weight from .64 lbs - 1.28 lbs, which suggests they are just around 4 weeks old (with two of them being runts of the litter.) On May 14th (which is the day after I'm writing this,) they have a vet visit, and we will house them until mom weans her kittens, and all 7 cats are able to get fixed. For Sesame, she'll be able to get fixed when her babies are weaned. For the 6 boys, they'll be able to get fixed once they reach 4 lbs. This means these 7 will be in our care for at least the next 3-4 months, minimum.

Our rescue is a specialized rescue that focuses on extra-needs cats, and we are not currently accepting any more animals because we do not have the space or the funds to take on any more cats. But now, Sesame and her 6 babies are in our care, and we are determined to provide her and her litter the love, care and housing that they deserve. We are hoping you will aid us in helping Sesame and her kittens by helping us raise the funds it will cost to fix and vaccinate all 7 cats, as we were not financially prepared for 7 more souls to care for.

Dumping cats outside an animal rescue is animal abandonment. Animal abandonment is not only a crime in the state of Michigan, but is a federal crime. Beyond dumping the cats, leaving the kittens in a plastic tote with no air holes in the hot sunshine is cruel, and if that was done to a human, would be considered attempted murder. Separating a nursing mom from her kittens, who depend on her for survival, is also cruel to both the mother and each kitten. If you have any information about where Sesame and her kittens came from, please contact us directly at 989-652-0552. All reports can be made anonymously. Sesame and her kittens will be cared for, and ultimately will all find their loving forever homes. But the way this person went about surrendering them is not okay, and is animal abuse. Sesame, Elmo, Rocco, Bert, Ernie, Grover and Snuffy are lucky to be alive.

Thank you to our volunteers for taking quick action, and thank YOU for helping us provide for them!
