Help us make the shrine-room comfortable and safe even in heatwaves, wildfire and smoke events by raising $29,025 for a heating-cooling system. Our beautiful shrine-room is primarily for dharma events, but also crucially serves as the center's officially-designated 'safe space' in a wildfire, with features specifically to protect against embers and smoke. Risks from wildfire and smoke aside, climate change has meant the space gets unbearably hot even on many normal summer days. So with a view to making retreat conditions more comfortable and safer for those who are unable to tolerate such high temperatures, we finally decided to invest in making this change.
Update Oct 2024 -- after consulting and getting quotes from several contractors, we settled on a company with an excellent track record that demonstrated the best and most up-to-date knowledge of products and which understood our needs and budget. We are excited to announce that we are moving ahead with a mini-split system that allows for both heating and cooling, and installation should be complete by mid-November.
Thank you so much to everyone for your support -- it is very much appreciated! We are still short of the full amount, and appreciate whatever offerings you or your friends or family members might wish to make.
Any amount raised above the target will be assigned to ongoing maintenance of the shrine-room exterior -- siding repairs, painting and caulking, roofing.
