Skyview Unified Sports Call to Action

Team sports bring people together. Special Olympics Unified Sports teams do that, too and much more. While many young people with disabilities do not often get a chance to play on their school sports teams, about 1.2 million people worldwide take part in Unified Sports. More and more U.S. states are adopting the Unified Sports approach that Special Olympics pioneered. Special Olympics Championschools programming is in more than 8,300 schools across the United States, with a goal of being in 10,000 schools by the end of 2024. They are breaking down stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities in a really-fun way.

Unified Sports joins students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship, understanding and meaningful inclusion. Unified sports are a great way to promote diversity amongst the student population and provide athletes and partners with a chance to build lasting relationships. At Skyview, we offer two seasons of Unified competitive athletics. Unified Basketball and Cheer in the winter and Unified Soccer in the spring, as well as a year round Unified Rally Club. In the future we are looking forward to putting together competitive Robotics and E-Games teams as well.

With this being said, we are looking to continue to build our program to the level that we have come to expect from all our Skyview athletic programs. Skyview Unified has won its District championship the last 2 years in basketball and won both District and State last year in soccer. With this success, we are looking to fundraise to be able to provide better equipment to run practices and games more efficiently, Skyview Unified apparel for athletes and support increasing travel expenses. We would also like to increase the diversity of our teams and explore other Unified sports programs that are offered. With your donations, we promise to use the funding responsibly and appropriately in order to grow this already quality program.
