Rachel Otis' Story

As a Jewish therapist with strong roots in the community at large and who works virtually with clients worldwide, I've been privy to witness first-hand the ongoing & recent trauma my peers of all ages have been experiencing due to the current climate of the world and rising antisemitism. As the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, I know on a personal and biological level the effects of transgenerational trauma getting triggered at this time. Additionally, having the majority of my family living in Israel also uniquely positions me to be able to understand the horror of what has been happening in our homeland so that I may support those returning from war or losing loved ones with my somatic approach (as working virtually in this way assures no limitations to who I can have sessions with). Working somatically means that I support bodily sensations just as much as I do emotions, feelings, and memories/flashbacks; going beyond language to access the unconscious. Because of this deep passion for Tikkun Olam that my Saba truly instilled in me at a young age, I'm extra excited to present the follow: ✨ Mutual Aid Fundraiser: Therapy Scholarships for the Global Jewish Community ✨ Support Healing. Support Access. Support Each Other. Across the global Jewish community, countless people are carrying the weight of stress, grief, trauma, and isolation—yet many cannot afford the mental-health care they need. Jewish therapists around the world are ready to help, but financial barriers too often stand in the way. This mutual-aid fundraiser exists to change that. We are building a community-funded Therapy Scholarship Program that connects individuals seeking support with Jewish therapists—at no cost to the client. Your donation directly fuels long-term, sustainable access to care within our own community. 💙 How It Works 1. Community Donations → Therapist Support Fund All contributions go into a shared fund. A portion of every dollar raised covers initial participation payments for the Jewish therapists who join the program. This ensures we can quickly confirm therapist availability, reserve sliding-scale spots, and build a stable network of care. 2. Remaining Funds → Therapy Scholarships After onboarding therapists, the rest of the funds are turned into scholarships. These scholarships fully cover the cost of sessions for clients, ensuring that no one is turned away due to financial need. 3. Clients Choose Their Therapist Eligible clients—whether facing financial hardship, trauma, stress, or other mental-health challenges—will receive scholarship credits that they use to schedule sessions directly with participating Jewish therapists. 4. Therapists Are Paid Fairly Therapists receive compensation per session at a stable, pre-agreed rate to ensure the sustainability of their practice and encourage long-term participation. 🌍 Why This Matters • Jewish cultural and spiritual understanding is essential. Many community members seek therapists who share their background, language, and lived experience. • Therapy remains inaccessible for many. Financial barriers continue to prevent people from receiving support, especially during times of communal stress or displacement. • A mutual-aid model strengthens us. This is not charity—this is collective care. Together, we directly support each other’s wellbeing. 💬 Who Can Apply for Support? Scholarships are open to members of the global Jewish community who: • Would benefit from mental-health support • Face financial barriers to accessing therapy • Prefer or require a Jewish therapist for cultural, religious, linguistic, or personal reasons. (Including therapists with knowledge of frum life and communities.) Applications will be simple, confidential, and barrier-free. 📘 How Funds Will Be Used Your contribution goes directly toward: 1. Therapist Onboarding Costs (initial portion) • Ensuring therapist commitment • Securing appointment availability • Building a multilingual, global therapist network 2. Therapy Session Scholarships (majority of funds) • 100% of these funds pay for client sessions • Scholarships are allocated transparently and equitably 3. Program Sustainability We commit to transparency: periodic fund updates, number of sessions sponsored, and shared community impact reports. 🤝 Join Us in Building Accessible Healing Your donation—large or small—makes a real difference. Every contribution becomes part of someone’s healing journey. Every dollar expands access to culturally-aligned mental-health care. Every bit of support strengthens the global Jewish community. Together, we can ensure that no one faces hardship alone and no one in need is denied therapy because of cost! Donate today. Share widely. Help us open doors to healing.
