Cho's Story:
Cho was abandoned with her other mini lop friend April 2025 in the town next to the sanctuary. Cho is a domesticated house rabbit who could never survive out in the wild for an extended period of time. She doesn't have the survival skills like wild rabbits. Somehow she survived for 12 days and is miracurously still healthy! Her friend did not have the same luck. Co-founder Jen spotted these rabbits being talked about on a community facebook page. She messaged offering to help capture and only got a response from 1 homeowner. She was amazing and caught Cho by hand! Cho was certainly getting hungry and approached her for a carrot. Thankfully Cho is a friendly girl so this allowed her to be rescued. We set 4 traps for her friend but she always avoided them. The homeowner who caught Cho did not see the other bunny on her home cameras for about 5 days, therefore we feel a predator likely got her. This is the sad truth for bunnies. People adopt them not understanding of what they truly need or that they can live up to 10 years! It is a long commitment requiring knowledgable care and special vet care. Because of this, bunnies are the third most abandoned pet in the United States. They are a vulnerable population without a voice.
At Bark & Bray, we want to change this and use our platform to help educate the public on their care. Cho's arrival was fate because we just finalized plans to add "Maya's Fluffle Flat"- a sanctuary cottage for rescue rabbits in need. This is a big undertaking because rabbits actually require a fair amount of space to thrive. It is unhealthy for them to just live in a 2x4 foot cage- this is like jail! This flat will have large safe indoor and outdoor spaces so that the rabbits can truly live their lives to the fullest. We hope to have it complete and ready to add more buns in Fall 2025.
