You are invited to participate in this special 3-part series, Start from Within: Equity-Centered Social Emotional Learning, led by long-time Sofia Center collaborator Tamisha Williams.

As many of you see in your classrooms and schools everyday, there is a documented increase of stress, anxiety, and trauma among young people, resulting from COVID-19 related school closures and continued racial, gender, and other identity-based systemic discrimination. Especially now, there is a critical need for every adult in the school community to have effective tools to support the well-being of their students. With a parallel rise of stress among teachers themselves, this 3-part professional development series aims at providing tools for educator well-being in order that teachers and school leaders can best position themselves to serve students.

Participants will...

examine the relationship between educator well-being and student well-being
expand their understanding of the relationship between trauma-informed practices and SEL curricula
increase their awareness of the impact of social identities on teaching and learning

More about Tamisha

Tamisha Williams, M.Ed. (she|her) is a dynamic facilitator, transformational coach, and equity practitioner with over 10 years of experience in the field of education. Through the use of visuals and storytelling, Tamisha inspires educators to deepen their equity and racial-literacy skills. Tamisha has experience working with multiple stakeholders to name and confront structural and systemic inequalities in their school community.

In the summer of 2021, Tamisha branched out on her own, launching Tamisha Williams Consulting, which serves as a catalyst for equity and wellness. Through coaching, retreats, and guided reflections she creates spaces for people to grow in their self-awareness and be expansive in their visioning. Tamisha Williams Consulting helps clients align their actions and impact with their values and intentions.

Tamisha earned her B.A. in Studio Art and Comprehensive Education from the University of Richmond and her M.Ed. in Family and Marriage Counseling from The College of William and Mary.
