Daisy Rae, Apollo Star & Maggie Star joined GRRA this week. Apollo & Maggie were going to be left behind when their family moved out of state. Daisy Rae needed our help as her family had a change of living situation. These sweet babies were all urgent intakes this week and we had no idea they would be in such rough shape. Despite their incredibly thin frames, they are all sweet, loving, and excitedly waiting for their future families to scoop them up. Due to their incredibly skinny state (all body condition score of 2/9 - 1/9 is as skinny as you can be without being dead), they are unable to be spayed/neutered at this point. Daisy Rae needs to gain at least 10lbs. She is petite at 29lbs, but should be about 40lbs. Maggie Star is 35lbs and should be about 45lbs. The kicker, Apollo Star is 50lbs and should be at least 75lbs, he has no fat or muscle reserves on his body at all. All of these pups will need some major TLC and FOOD over the next few weeks. Apollo has already gained a few pounds just after 2 days at the vet. What does that prove? Food. They need food. They have done testing, all labs are fine - which means there is likely no medical reason these dogs are so skinny. Skin and bones is how to describe Apollo. However, Apollo is also suffering from a gnarly ear infection and a horrible skin infection along with a UTI. Poor guy is really had a rough go, but despite his state - he is still the sweetest, mild mannered boy. Please help us take care of these babies who so desperately needed our help.
