In Memory of Sueshyant "Shawn" Rezaei

In May, 2023, just shy of his 38th birthday, Sueshyant "Shawn" Rezaei was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma — a rare, aggressive, and often pediatric cancer. From that day forward, he faced every appointment, scan, treatment, blood draw and challenge with quiet courage and relentless determination. Over his two-year and two-month battle, Shawn endured more than most of us can imagine — yet rarely spoke of his pain or fear. He never wanted attention, sympathy, or the spotlight. Instead, he focused on living, loving, and staying present.

Though Ewing Sarcoma often appears in childhood, Shawn's case emerged late — an uncommon blessing that gave him time to live life fully and meaningfully. And live he did. He kept laughing, pushing forward, and finding joy wherever he could. He was happiest at home with his wife, two cats, fireplace and whatever delicious meal he prepared for the day. He explored outside-the-box treatments, including flying to Germany to become the first American to receive a cutting-edge FAP-targeted radioligand therapy for Sarcoma. This not only fit his personality but he wanted to be able to report back to the ES community so that others might have better options earlier in their own journeys.

What broke Shawn’s heart most wasn’t what cancer did to him — it was what it does to children. He never wavered in his desire to help those who are forced to fight this battle far too young. He hoped that after his own journey, he could be a resource to parents and spouses searching desperately for answers, and to patients looking for hope.

To honor Shawn’s legacy, we’re asking for donations to the Little Warriors Foundation, a leading force in the fight against Ewing Sarcoma. Your support fuels promising research, including the ES vaccine in development at Cleveland Clinic, and ensures that no child or family walks this path alone.

Shawn inspired everyone who knew him — including us. His courage, humility, and drive to make a difference live on through every gift made in his name.
