The Friends of Orient Beach State Park's mission is to support the activities of the park and to advocate for the park at the state level, serving as an information center for local stakeholders. The group works closely with park professionals to provide fundraising, volunteers and other support necessary to keep the park vibrant, well-funded and well-staffed.

Established in 2023, the volunteer-run group was awarded a grant from PTNY in 2024 for a coastal resiliency study to protect the entrance road to the park. FoOBSP has helped community members advocate for a new playground at the park, and has sponsored concerts, kayak tours, an annual Lantern Walk, and events like birding walks and beach clean-ups.

Orient Beach State Park is recognized as a National Natural Landmark and an Audubon Important Bird Area.
