For 12 years, Illumination Foundation has been singularly focused on disrupting the cycle of homelessness. Making an impact on homelessness is a community effort—one that requires every one of us to care and to be involved. Illumination Foundation approaches this issue head-on. We focus on the most vulnerable homeless individuals, families and children, all of whom have been impacted by trauma. The escalating crisis of homelessness affects every sector of our society, and we are poised to provide effective solutions to impact the individuals in need of our services. In many cases, those we help turn around and pay it forward, helping those still in need. In this way, the lives we touch radiate out to touch others in ways we can’t even measure.

We strive to make an impact in our community each and every day. In 2019, we made the following impact by the numbers:

288,559 Safe shelter nights of stay were provided
2,624 People were served by Illumination Foundation in 2019
1,191 Homeless clients received recuperative care services
596 Families and individuals have been housed In Illumination Foundation programs
174 Individuals have been diverted from entering the cycle of homelessness

We serve the homeless population through the core competencies of housing and healthcare, understanding that we can't house the vulnerable homeless without providing the necessary wrap-around services needed to continue their individual paths toward healing. Our current programs and services include:

Housing: Illumination Foundation provides housing services, including emergency housing, bridge housing, and micro-communities. We combine housing with comprehensive services to encourage long-term housing stability and connect clients to permanent housing. Micro-communities are large homes in residential neighborhoods that have been renovated to serve as supportive housing for homeless individuals. In this shared housing model, residents have their own private rooms and utilize a common kitchen and living area with other residents. Wrap around services, including case management and counseling are provided on site.

Recuperative Care: Our recuperative care offers a safe, clean, and supportive setting to provide recovery and service coordination for medically vulnerable individuals exiting hospitals and experiencing homelessness. We help clients medically stabilize through integrated medical oversight, intensive case management, housing navigation, and other services. Our staff ensures the coordination of post-acute care for each client, overseeing their medical discharge plan, providing education on medical compliance, and connecting clients to medical resources such as medical home, specialty care, and post-recuperative care.

Shelter/Navigation Center: Our shelter and navigation centers are geared toward the most vulnerable homeless individuals in Orange County. Clients receive case management, housing navigation, behavioral health services, and substance use counseling. Clients are able to stay in the shelter 24 hours a day.

Family Emergency Shelter: We provide a wide array of services that support the healthy development of families and children, including parenting classes.

Multi-Service Centers: Our Multi-Service Centers in Stanton and Anaheim are walk-in centers where individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness can connect with services and support systems to stabilize their situation and connect them to permanent housing

Children and Family Programs: Our program embeds health, mental health, and educational support services to our Children’s Resource Center and Family Emergency Shelters. We also provide services to clients at other temporary and permanent housing locations.

Behavioral Health/Substance Use Services: Our behavioral health and substance use counselors are trained in trauma-informed, person-centered care, as well as motivational interviewing, harm reduction, child development, domestic violence, suicidal ideation and dialectical behavioral therapy. Our team works with clients in all our programs, including emergency shelters, family emergency shelters, recuperative care and micro-communities.
