Reviving lost music. Restoring forgotten legacies. Supporting the next generation.
The Gena Branscombe Project is a nonprofit dedicated to restoring the lost works of composer and conductor Gena Branscombe and uplifting historically overlooked voices through performance, publishing, and scholarships.
Music history is not finished being written.
Gena Branscombe (1881–1977) was a Canadian-American composer, conductor, and arts advocate whose music was widely performed during her lifetime, and then nearly disappeared. By the mid-20th century, her scores survived only as handwritten manuscripts in archives like the New York Public Library, unheard and inaccessible to performers and audiences.
The Gena Branscombe Project exists to change that.
Through archival research, score restoration, live performance, and publishing, we bring Branscombe’s music, and the music of her overlooked contemporaries, back into the world. Our work transforms fragile manuscripts into living repertoire and creates meaningful opportunities for today’s artists.
Your support makes this possible.
Donations to The Gena Branscombe Project help fund:
-
Restoration and editing of unpublished scores
-
Concerts, premieres, and educational performances
-
Scholarships for emerging composers, conductors, and arts administrators
-
Publishing and long-term access to Gena's entire catalogue of music
This work is about more than one composer. By rebuilding Branscombe’s legacy, we are creating a replicable model for how lost voices can be restored with care, rigor, and respect.
Thank you for helping us ensure this music is heard, not just once, but for generations to come.
