Does being an Eagle Scout make a difference? According to numerous sources, it does. Being an Eagle Scout sets you apart from the rest. It doesn’t guarantee success, but it does give you an edge on college and job applications; and most importantly, the journey to Eagle builds a Scouts character as he/she will grow into a responsible, resilient, and respectful young adult. The national percentage of Scouts who become an Eagle Scout is roughly 6%. Proudly, about 75% of Scouts who join Troop 719 earn their Eagle rank, which says a lot about this troop. Our troop was founded close to 70 years ago. Since our beginning, 215 Scouts have earned the prestigious honor to be called a 719 Eagle Scout. Today, Troop 719 is comprised of about 29 Scouts.

Scouting America Troop 719 resumed the Annual Golf Tournament in 2024, and will be hosting our 23rd Annual Golf Tournament at the California Country Club in Whittier. We are kindly asking for your support of our golf tournament. The funds raised through this event will directly fund our Scouts’ high adventure activities (including backpacking treks, hiking, and rock climbing), Scout skills and leadership training and community service activities.

There are many important ways you can have an impact and support our Scouts through the golf tournament. In addition to participating as a golfer, you can demonstrate your support for our Scouts by becoming a Tee Sponsor ($150 per sponsorship). Donations of $300 will earn you the distinction of being recognized as an Eagle Sponsor with special recognition for your generosity. Contributions of any amounts in support of the troop are welcomed.

Scout Troop 719 of Torrance, California is a backpacking and hiking troop. Our troop has been in existence since 1956 and is part of the Pacifica District, Greater Los Angeles Area Council, Western Region of Boy Scouts of America.

Our charter and sponsoring organization is: Faith United Methodist Church (FUMC), 2115 W 182nd St, Torrance, CA 90504.

While our scouts also participate in traditional scouting activities (such as summer camp, scout skills field days & competitions, etc), our scouting program is primarily executed through its hiking, backpacking and high adventure activities. We believe that the challenges encountered and overcome on the trail through collective effort and applied leadership build character and resilience as our Scouts advance and grow into young adults and contributing members of their community, Each year, our typical hiking season includes the following outings/activities:

Since 1974, our long term camping and backpacking have included the Northern and Southern Sierra Nevada with trips to/near, Yosemite, Mt. Whitney, most of the John Muir Trail, parts of the Pacific Crest Trail and Lake Tahoe; with periodic out of state trips to Grand Canyon/Colorado River, Utah and Hawaii. The Long Term Backpacking trip in August will typically cover over 50 miles and is the culmination of all the above activities. We have also participated in treks to Philmont Scout Ranch, a challenging high adventure base of Scouting America, and have plans to visit another high adventure base, Northern Tier, which offers canoe trips.
