It started with a dream. A Place Called Home was founded in 1993 by Debrah Constance. Her vision was simple — create a safe space for children in South Central Los Angeles to escape the violence on the streets.
Now, A Place Called Home has been serving our South Central community for more than 30 years, providing hundreds of young people daily with FREE programs in education, the arts, counseling, athletics, social enterprise, a college pathway with scholarships, and vocational preparation and placements.
This year alone we have provided 80,000+ hours of programming and support including workshops and professional readiness to over 700 youth. We've served 15,000+ meals to our members, provided 3,000+ hours of mental health counseling, distributed 3,500+ bags of groceries through our weekly Family Resource Depot, and are currently supporting 96 students in college through scholarship distribution of over $400,000 annually.
Our members live in one of the most under-resourced neighborhoods in Los Angeles, where 1 in 4 people don’t know if they will have a next meal, and where 55% of adults do not have a high school diploma. A Place Called Home encourages our youth to dream big, and with your support, we can provide the resources, tools, and opportunities to help them achieve those dreams.
Thanks to our friends at The Change Reaction, every donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000 to help A Place Called Home make a profound difference in South Central. That means together, we can raise $50,000 to support our life-changing work!
