Chips, Guac, and Queso all came down with a respiratory illness after leaving the shelter.

They’re battling the same infections—

but not the same fight.

Chips and Guac are bigger, stronger, and able to handle it with medication.

But Queso is only 4 pounds.

She’s half their size, incredibly fragile, and the combination of viruses was simply too much for her little body to fight on its own.

Her oxygen levels dropped into the 70s without support.

She struggled to breathe.

And for a moment, we didn’t know which way this would go.

She’s home now—but she’s not out of the woods.

Queso is still not eating well, still on medication,

and still fighting multiple infections as her little body tries to recover.

This is the fragile stage of rescue—

when they’ve made it through the crisis,

but they’re not truly safe yet.
